Opening a 5.5 project - strings are suddenly hex?
As the title says, I'm trying to open a legacy project that was built in 5.5 (opening with 5.6) but when I open it, all the strings in the inspector are now hex-encoded, including OnClick bindings/references (!).
Having done some research it seems to be something to do with serialization for version control (in the project settings, visible metafiles are turned on and serialization is forced to text). I can't quite figure out how to change it all back, or what settings I need to play with to get it to undo. It's not just in the editor, the YAML also has the strings as hex values, so it's in the underlying data.
The nearest I can find is this topic: https://answers.unity.com/questions/1266566/strings-in-inspector-field-suddenly-displayed-as-h.html I tried messing about with those settings but can't get it to revert.
Any help appreciated.
