Noob questions to Unity upgrading
So I've been playing with a 2d sidescroller importing basic sprites etc, and I went into the asset store and bought a handful of assets. I bought the Mecanim AI System which needed me to upgrade Unity. My version really shouldn't be very out of date as I'm new to unity, so obviously this ruined my 2d sidescroller start. The error said that upgrading would ruin my progress but my only 2 options were to "Quit" or "Continue" so pretty much I had no option... In this scenario how to avoid the upgrade lets say I want to keep my progress on my project? Is the reasons this ruined my actual project because I imported these assets after I downloaded them though afterwards I realized how silly that was? Lastly, when groups are working on projects do they all set in stone a particular version of unity they will be using for a particular project?
There's a few things said here that sound odd. I have upgraded my project from 3.5 through 4.3.3 every point release, no problems. So what do you mean "OBVIOUSLY this ruined..." - what was obvious about it and how was it ruined? What's silly about downloading & import, nothing.
