Maya Import Problems
I have a model head I animated in Maya that I wanted to import into Unity. I'm having a lot of trouble.
First off, only the teeth/gums are the only thing that import. They move, but the rest of the model, including the head and eyes, are simply gone even though they are completely there in Maya.
Second, I can't access the animation properties. I can't, for example go to Take001 and edit it, nor can I change any animation takes that I set afterwards. All the settings are greyed out. This is a problem I've had a lot lately, not just with this model.
I've tried to work with this file both in FBX and MA formats, but nothing changed. Can somebody please help me?
This problem occurs in every 3d application, But every time I find the fault is with what I did in that software package. What exactly have you done in maya?
I am sure the fault is there. I use maya often and can say it's complex to learn and understand, if you don't know what you did, then you should trace your'e steps.
Like you, I had a problem similar to this and thought it was the fault of unity:

but as you can see from the answered question, it was really something I did in c4d.
I know its not unity because anything you export that gets imported wrong isn't because of export/import or the receiving application -> that wasn't used to make it.
At least thats been my experience.

$$anonymous$$ithosAnnar is right, it's almost always something that's been done in the 3D package, not unity.
Go over the basics and make sure you had your entire model selected, appropriate exporting option set in maya, etc etc.
I suggest simply exporting a cube and building the complexity up to where you're at with the current model.
I made a very simple block man out of spheres and cylinders. I did very basic rigid bind rigging to it. The model appears this time, but it doesn't animate at all and I can't access the Animation Take settings. I'm beginning to think Unity might be at least partly at fault here.
