Is there any way to get a hinge joint to NOT let an object spring back to its original position?
Oh, and while I'm at it, how do you add force to an object in the direction you are facing?

A vanilla hinge is like a real hinge -- it has no special desire to spring back after it gets swung.
Are you saying you want the hinge to never unbend? It can never reduce the angle, only increase it, like a zip-tie?

And no, I just want it to act like a normal door, to be able to open and close and stay open and stay closed.
So you want to make a hinge that only swings one way -- unlike the normal one that can swing both ways? When you close it, it does go back to the original position (not past the other way, like a standard hinge.) If so, your question is sort of the opposite of that.
What about when you slam it? Should it bounce back, or just lock open? (normal doors do either.)
I think a more specific, detail question might help. But then, you may find answers here about adjusting hinges as you narrow down.
Yes, I may not have been specific enough.
I want a door that can swing freely backwards and forwards, be able to open inwards and outwards. But not to always go back to its original position (as it has been placed in the scene). The hinge joint always seems to want to do this. Now that I think of it, the door will also require a script that upon a command (pressing 'E'), force will be added to the door in the direction you are facing.
So in other words, it is like a door without constraints, and swings freely on its hinge, ins$$anonymous$$d of what it is doing currently, which is acting like there is some kind of elastic pulling it back to its original position/rotation.

You might have the Use Limits box ticked. I just had the same issue so I unticked that box and the problem was solved.
The default values for min and max limits are 0 so if you tick this box without expanding and changing any of the limits values the door would always try to close.
Ok I'll check this out when I can. I haven't been able to recently because of computer problems etc.
