Question by LeeNom_Nation · Apr 11, 2015 at 10:23 AM · unitypro

Rather odd question about unity3d free and pro

I have a rather odd question. I am learning Unity3d free currently. I do plan on getting the pro license but I am going to be in a place where the internet is quite expensive (this is a temporary situation, normally internet is like water where I am). Not bad just expensive (and a little slow), so I was wondering when upgrading from unity3d free to pro is there an update of something along those lines that I would have to download in addition to having the unity3d already installed. Or is it a case that the pro features are simply locked in the free version.

In the case that I would have to download the pro features, does anyone know how large the download would be. I can do a 250mb download easy but 1gb-2gb is quite expensive.

I believe that you would have to download the whole 2GB file again. Or you could download it on a different computer and stick it on a USB stick, and paste it onto your one. Then activate the license.

As of Unity5 I didn't think there was any difference between Pro and Personal editions other than the various licenses Pro has, for online support and such...

This question comes up in similar threads and often the answer is just make your game and worry about the Pro version/license later. I would say this is now more correct than ever as unity5 has all the features of the pro version.

I don't think the amount has changed but unless your game/project makes over $100k you won't need the pro license anyway and if you do make 100k you really won't be bothered about paying out 1500 to Unity right?

;)
