saving problem
I started working on a terrain casually without setting the save location and then found the folder and moved it onto a different folder on my desktop. I keep hitting save scene and save project but no dialogue boxes appear and I can't tell if it's really saving. It's certainly not updating the file on my desktop. I'm just afraid to close unity for fear of losing all my work.
There are no dialog boxes for "Save Scene" and "Save Project". Only for "Save Scene As". Note you should always save your scene within your project, i.e., somewhere below the "Assets" folder. Saving a scene outside your project (for example directly on your Desktop) is not a good idea.
If you forgot where your project folder is, just right-click on any asset in the "Project view" and select "Show in Explorer".
I still don't know what you mean by "save location".
And please don't open new questions about the same problem.
I apologise for the duplicate questions. I figured since you answered my first question the thread would go dead and it would take a very long time for someone to answer my second question.
When I click my terrain or my scene under the project tab the only thing they bring up in finder are the files themselves: terrain.asset & terrain1.unity. They don't seem to be in any folder. Should I drag these files into the folder I want them to be in? Or will that only mess things up further?
Um I apologise for all the comments but you've closed the thread and I'm still not quite sure what the problem is.

What exactly is the problem you experience? You didn't really ask a question here.
The only thing you should/can move or rename outside Unity is the project folder itself. Anything within that project folder must only be renamed/moved from within Unity.
If the finder shows you the file terrain.asset, it should also show you where that file is located. Go up the folder hierarchy until you reach a folder named "Assets". Go up another level. This is your project folder.
I've got the same problem and the solution was change the destiny folder.
