3ds Max uses a right handed coordinate system, Unity uses a left handed system. Those are fundamentally different all all handiness based features would be swapped. I'm not an artist but many suggest to use a certain axis orientation in max to align at least two axes properly. Though most simply import the model as it is and just rotate it inside Unity. You can use an empty gameobject and add your model as child. Now you can correct the orientation in Unity by rotating the child model to match the desired rotation relative to the empty parent object. When done turn the parent object into a prefab.
