Question by .hooligan · Nov 05, 2010 at 02:18 AM · iphonecost

iPhone export costs and correct license?

I'm a little confused at the costs or at least which license I need to export a unity iPhone game?

What does the unity free license enable me to do? I was looking through the different features between pro, free, ios, ios pro and wasn't sure which one you need to be able to export? They all just seem to add additional features. Or do you have to get unity pro to export to iphone?

Also do you need to get one of the ios additions to enable tilt control's from the iphone?

Sorry for the question. Don't want to buy something I don't need or even the wrong package/license.

This page does a pretty good job of illustrating your options. Just make sure you click on a "base product" first.

Without an iOS license, you can not switch the platform to iOS in the build settings. Without that, Unity Remote does not work, you can not use the appropriate GPU emulation modes, and you can not build for a device. In short, it's not a good idea to try making an iOS game without a Unity iOS license, and no, you won't be able to export to an iOS device without it. Your cost for entry for Unity iOS is $400 you don't need a Pro license.

Thanks for that. I appreciate it, makes a lot of sense now.

Just to clarify, are you saying its a bad idea to make a game in the free unity and then buy the iOS add on to compile it? Or that you can't even do that.

I was just wondering if I could develop the game with tempoary keyboard controls and then get the addon make the control changes and compile it for the iphone?

Hi there,

I have the same problem and i wan't to know this as well. Can i first start to create a game in the free version and buy at a later time the IOS license and then build/compile the game to IOS.
