Problem with Layers

Hello,

For some reason I seem to get blank layers when running the game. For example I have a particle emitter that's o nthe default layer, but when i turn it on from script it's on the blank layer. And my camera cannot show it unless i select show everything since I cannot select the blank layer fro mthe drop down list. Anyone have any ideas?
