Question by capnbishop · Feb 13, 2010 at 11:35 PM · editorfullscreen

Can the editor play in full screen?

When editing in Unity, I'd really like to be able to play in full screen. Setting the player to "Maximize on Play" helps, but it's not quite the same, and can potentially show misleading visuals. I'm guessing that the answer is no, but I'm hoping that there's a way to have Unity display the player in fullscreen when playing from the editor. I see that I can drag the Game tab out as a separate window, which helps, but I'd like to take over my entire screen if possible.

No, it's not possible. I'm not quite sure how you get misleading visuals with Maximize on Play, unless your code doesn't take into account different screen sizes.

I run into this all the time. $$anonymous$$y mac has a resolution on 1280x800. If I am working on a pixel perfect UI in the editor for ipad resolution the editor cannot currently display all the pixels because of the reduced editor size. This gives misleading visuals because what I see is not what I get on the ipad. If the editor were be able to fullscreen I would be able to see each pixel accurately.

You wouldn't be able to see all pixels in fullscreen anyway, since the iPad resolution as of now is 2048x1536. If you make your code resolution-independent, then it won't be an issue.

Agreed, but for detecting things like mip map issues, filtering issues, sprite transparency, compression artifacts, etc it really helps to see 1:1 for ipad gen 1 / ipad gen 2

actually u can check how it would look by setting the resolution of the web player or standlone in the aspect ratio of iphone or ipad.

Actually you dont have to do much in ios for resolution-independency, since all the ios devices are of same resolution.

@flamy: no they aren't. iPad 1 and 2 have one resolution, iPad 3 has a different resolution (4X). Same for iPhone 3GS and earlier compared to iPhone 4 and later.
