Question by Julien-Lynge · May 07, 2013 at 12:02 AM · metamoderationrejected

[Meta] Moderation queue comments - do askers actually see them?

Now that UnityAnswers has adjusted how much karma users need to reject questions in the moderation queue (thanks Graham!), I'm curious:

When I comment on a question in the queue, and then reject that question, does the comment actually make it back to the asker? I like to include helpful messages about why a question was rejected (no discernable question, off-topic, better for the forum, etc.), and I just want to make sure that the OPs are actually seeing those comments even after their question is rejected/deleted. Can any UA devs / users who have been rejected comment on this?

You know you could test it. Open yourself a new account, post a test question, and then publish a message from the moderation queue.

Yes they do. Often they reply to the comments while its in moderation . They sometimes even improve the question and we then publish it.

But most times some guy comes in and publish everything in one go. And hours later someone with proper permission (enough karma points) has to go and close the questions.

No they don't. Send $$anonymous$$essage is still broken. If the original poster (OP) leave their question open in the browser and hits refresh, then they can see the comments. But if the OP did not leave the question open in the browser, the question simply disappears from the OP's point of view. Based on comments back, I figure only 1 in 20 leave their question open in their browser.

I want to test this theory. I'm going to Send my own question to $$anonymous$$oderation. Please comment on it @robertbu

Thank you.

I closed my windows after Sending. Accessing the page through my Activity button I saw all 4 comments.

This could be related to the fail-to-update bug in which one must click refresh twice to see any changes.

Note, the activity button is the suggested way to access your QA still in moderation, as stated on the Unity FAQ page.

Could you publish the Test Q?

This QA is a Test QA I knocked up a while back to test the disappearing comments.

Certain visiblity options will make comments disappear when they are converted to Answer etc.

Feel free to use the page to try for yourself. Notice the -4 answers on the page and the erroneous See more comments count.
