Question by justinenayat · Oct 09, 2021 at 06:50 PM · inventorystoreitemitemsbuy

Cannot convert from 'int' to 'PlayFab.ClientModels.ItemInstance'

I understand why I'm getting this error, but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.

I'm making a store page in my game. It checks PlayFab for all the info of the item catalog and gets the user's inventory when the player clicks on the store button. If the player already owns the item, I want the store page to show the "equip" button. If they don't, I want it to show the "buy" button. Since there are separate requests for getting the catalog and getting the user's inventory, I'm not entirely sure how to check them against each other. Here is my code:

 public List<CatalogItem> CatalogItems { get; private set; }
 public List <ItemInstance> userInventory { get; private set; }

     public void OnGetInventory(GetUserInventoryResult result)
     {
         userInventory = result.Inventory;
     }

     public void OnGetCatalog(GetCatalogItemsResult result)
     {
         CatalogItems = result.Catalog;
         foreach (var catalogItem in CatalogItems)
         {
             string ID = catalogItem.ItemId;
             int itemID = int.Parse(ID);

             if (userInventory.Contains(itemID))
                 equipButton.SetActive(true);
             else
                 buyButton.SetActive(true);
         }
     }

The error comes in at "if (userInventory.Contains(itemID))." It makes sense to me why it doesn't like this, but I'm not how to change it to make it work. If I use the string "ID" it says cannot convert from 'string'. Any input is super appreciated!

Figured it out:

  public List<CatalogItem> CatalogItems { get; private set; }
      public List <ItemInstance> userInventory { get; private set; }
      public List<string> userItems;

          public void OnGetInventory(GetUserInventoryResult result)
          {
              userInventory = result.Inventory;
              foreach (var userItem in userInventory)
              {
                 var instance = userItem.ItemInstanceId;
                 string ID = userItem.ItemId;
                 userItems.Add(ID);
               }
          }

          public void OnGetCatalog(GetCatalogItemsResult result)
          {
              CatalogItems = result.Catalog;
              foreach (var catalogItem in CatalogItems)
              {
                  string ID = catalogItem.ItemId;
                  int itemID = int.Parse(ID);
                  if (userItems.Contains(ID))
                      equipButton.SetActive(true);
                  else
                      buyButton.SetActive(true);
              }
          }
