Question by united4life · Dec 02, 2012 at 11:29 AM · pivot

Can we change the pivot points of any GameObject?

Or before importing it to our project pivot should be changed?

You can embed your model inside an empty GameObject and position it wherever you like - this allows you to create any pivot point if you then use the outer game object.

It can be easier to make your models correct first.

@whydoidoit Could you elaborate on what you mean '...it can be easier to make your models correct first...' in terms of 'first' interpreted as 'in the first place' If you give it a good thought they are different. As worded it implies that a model would harbor a pivot point that the engine will interpret as a (center). t.y.

is there any way we can do without creating empty gameobject . I mean how to directly modify the rotation pivot point of a gameobject.

No only by containing it inside another one.

you can only do it with unity pro version without empty gameobject

Of course the top answer doesn't answer the question at all. Typical.

But he gave the answer. You cannot directly change pivot point of 3D objects in Unity. You can either child your model to an empty GameObject and move/rotate that empty object ins$$anonymous$$d, or you can export your models with pivot point in place where you actually want it.

I believe there are some tools on asset store that let you modify the pivot point, buy they are not free.

I have tried many things, but have not been able to do it from Unity itself.

The best I have been able to achieve was using modeling tools like Studio Max -> Collapse - Skin + Editable Mesh -Then from an animation tool -- Reset and Freeze the Pivot ,I have tried many things, but have not been able to do it from Unity itself.
