Question by toddhdavis · May 16 at 08:11 PM · drag-and-drop

Can you have both "draggable" and "droppable" on the same item(s)?

I am creating a game (UI based) that has game pieces that can be dragged and dropped onto other game pieces. As such, each game piece has two scripts, one to implement the drag functionality, and one to implement the drop functionality. This code is very generic and is taken straight from the Unity tutorial on the subject. In the tutorial however, only the draggable pieces have the drag script, and only the droppable pieces have the drop script. My need is not so clearly defined. Any piece can be dragged and dropped onto another piece.

The problem I'm having is that when I drag and drop one piece onto the other, the OnDrop() event only fires on the piece that I am dragging, and doesn't fire on the drop target. I'm not sure why that's happening.

My draggable code looks like this:

  public class DragDrop : MonoBehaviour,
  IPointerDownHandler,
  IBeginDragHandler, IEndDragHandler,
  IDragHandler

   public void OnBeginDrag(PointerEventData eventData)   {
     Debug.Log($"OnBeginDrag");
     canvasGroup.blocksRaycasts = false;
    }

   public void OnEndDrag(PointerEventData eventData)
 {
     Debug.Log($"OnEndDrag");
     canvasGroup.blocksRaycasts = true;
    }

   public void OnDrag(PointerEventData
 eventData)   {
     Debug.Log($"OnDrag");   }

And my droptarget code looks like this:

     public class DropTarget : MonoBehaviour, IDropHandler
 public  void OnDrop(PointerEventData eventData)   {
         Debug.Log($"OnDrop");   }
 }

Any thoughts on why the drop targets are not registering the drop? Is there a way to fix this and still have everything draggable and droppable?
