Will the Legacy animation system ever be removed from Unity?
I really like the simplicity of the old animation system. Mecanim is great and everything but its made for complex animations. When making a simple game the extra power seems to get in the way. Do you ever think the developers will remove the old animation system?

The Only reason Legacy animation system still exists is to provide backward compatibility with old projects. Unity dosent suggest to use legacy animation system for new projects however. So i am assuming it might be removed somewhere in the future.
Do you know of any possible way to use the new system WITHOUT any kind of drag and drop at all, like the old system? Can someone still simply just say anim.play("test") ins$$anonymous$$d of setting up all the bools etc.?
There is a lot of stuff that only works in legacy. I seriously hope they only remove legacy once everything works in the new system.
Also, the new system is such a hassle compared to the old
Edit: wow, I didn't realize this question was so old, and legacy STILL has it's advantage over the "new" system
