Question by RyanZimmerman87 · Dec 21, 2013 at 10:23 AM · bugcrashmonodevelopslowunity 4.3

Why is Unity 4.3 so unstable?

I've been really trying to let this slide as there has been some improvements in 4.3 like the more compact UI and you can actually highlight text accurately in the new Monodevelop. Occlusion has also been greatly improved.

But enough is enough, I'm really just fed up with 4.3 now. On OS X Maverick the newest Mac OS there is a 1000+ vote issue already which can be seen here and is priority 2 even though it makes Unity completely worthless for many people:

I think the new version of Monodevelop is complete crap because I have problems on it with Mac and it frequently freezes and brings my cpu % over 100% which seems like that's impossible?

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=rc4qrn&s=5#.UrAR32RDv0g

The Monodevelop problem is not isolated to MAC though. It performs better on PC but I cannot exit Monodevelop before I exit Unity or Unity freezes when using PC.

Am I the only one getting these issues? My artist has been complaining that the new Unity 4.3 makes their Windows 8 computer crash constantly, I'm getting the same problems with Windows 7...

This is just really unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately. I'm not sure if I'm the only one dealing with this nightmare in their multi-platform project, but it really is terrible recently.

I never had any problems in 4.2 whatsoever. Now using Unity 4.3 is like a complete joke of crashes on PC and crazy lag on Mac.

My Mac is the Late 2013 15" macbook pro.

My PC is Intel i7 2600k @ 4GHZ with GTX 770 4GB.

So there is no excuse for me to have these performance issues on Mac or crashes on PC. All other programs other than Unity are 100% rock solid...

I agree with the fact that Unity 4.3 is quite unstable compared to earlier releases, however you can't blame the dev $$anonymous$$m entirely for any problems related to $$anonymous$$onoDevelop. Although the $$anonymous$$onoDevelop that ships with Unity is a modified version, the original was not made by Unity3d.
I don't know which application causes the problem, but it might not be their fault and just be some quirk with $$anonymous$$onoDevelop.

I'm quite impressed that $$anonymous$$onoDevelop uses more CPU power than the CPU has power!? Very special ;)

Haha, special indeed. It's really annoying though because it causes $$anonymous$$onodevelop to completely freeze and become unresponsive for 10-30 seconds. I kinda think some of the problem there is with $$anonymous$$AC's new OS $$anonymous$$averick X.

But I'm also getting crashes on Windows 7 so there's got to be a bit more too the problem.

$$anonymous$$aybe it's just the perfect storm of problems between $$anonymous$$onodevelop, PC, and $$anonymous$$AC but it is really making things difficult and I hope this is a #1 priority of the Unity $$anonymous$$m to fix this.

TBO I don't believe Unity's version of $$anonymous$$onoDevelop was ever very stable. I've always had crashes ever since I started using it, right until I stopped using it. It really is time that they fix up their version of $$anonymous$$onoDevelop
