Why such a big FPS drop?
I have a simple plain with a triplanar texture on it and 200 models in the scene. Activating the shadows on the directional light, basically destroys the FPS, taking it from 60+ to 25-28 FPS...
The even stranger thing is this:
-if I disable all the models in the scene and I leave only the plane and the direcitonal light with shadows, the FPS still remains low (maybe only a 3-4 FPS increase)
-if I disable the plane with the triplanar texture the FPS boosts back to 60+
-If I disable the shadows, same thing, FPS back to 60+
The triplanar script is from an assetstore pack that works very well in it's scene.
What could be the problem here?
It may be due to all objects are casting shadows to your triplanar plane. Can you uncheck the box "Receive Shadows" of triplanar plane to see if that is the real problem?
I ended up throwing the terrain triplanar shader. Too bad, it looked awesome, but apparently the realtime soft shadows don't work well with it :D
Thanks man for giving me the nudge in the right direction.
