How to fix the world space canvas not showing in game

Hello

I am using unity 4.6 free edition and trying to use the UI system to create the hp bar for monsters in a networked level. The canvas is parented to the monster. I am using the world space canvas. The camera is set to the main camera. I see the canvas in the scene view but not in the game for some reason. If I set the canvas to screen space overlay it seems to appear. All help would be appreciated
