Area Light Giving Patchy Shadows
See attached. When the area light is in the room, it looks fine after bake. But when I try to make things look more realistic and move the light outside it produces patchy shadows on the walls after bake. I've tampered with all the bake settings for hours and not fixed this. Point lights and Directional lights don't have this issue. Anyone know what's going on?

I think it may be giving you patchy shadows because it is shining through the window, which is dirty. So I guess (since you want your window to look like that) that the most realistic is patchy, but for the nicest look you will have to bring the light inside.
Oops sorry didn't see that Point lights and Directional lights don't have that issue. :(
