Question by MrBonk71 · May 31, 2015 at 12:29 PM · asset storedownloadcache

Can I change the Asset Store download cache location?

Hey folks....I'd like to be able to change the download location that the Asset Store uses. There's a couple of reasons for this....firstly, it's on my OS drive and I'd like to have these all stored on my secondary data drive instead. Secondly, it's a PITA to have to browse there every time I want to copy the downloaded package to elsewhere.

Obviously, the second reason is just an annoyance, but the first one is the real reason. I have a relatively small SSD for my OS drive, so after these download, I end up moving them off manually anyway to my much larger spinning data drive.

Is there a way I can tell Unity to look at a different location to find these? I can't find a setting in preferences anywhere to do it.

Ok....so just in case somebody else is in the same boat, I ended up solving the issue by setting up a symbolic link to the folder instead. Unity seems to be quite happy to work with it. Instructions I used for this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

Too expensive to buy when you can do it for free with a little effort. Not buying :/
