Question by aleichert · Oct 18, 2014 at 06:46 PM · confuseddeleted

My unity questions keep getting deleted?

Hey there,

ok, so, I make completly relevant questions about Unity and always triple-check them for any offensive or irrelevant material - and usually all the questions get deleted.

Most of the deleted questions contain something like "unity GameObject won't respond while-in game, just freezes (doesn't react to collision, Key-Input" which might be a unity bug.

Nevertheless, there might be stuff wrong in my questions - but the moderators don't even tell you why they get deleted?

I think that at least a reason for deletion should be given. Or am I missing out on something? Please tell me!

Sincerely, aleichert

TL;DR: Unity keeps deleting my questions, don't know why, please tell me if I am missing out on some rule like "Not more than X questions" or "no bug reports in here" or such

This is UnityAnswers afterall.

Generally speaking, whenever a question is deleted from the moderation queue, a moderator will write a comment on it first. This, in theory is visible only to the poster and moderators, and often asks for more clarification or suggested rewrites before the question is approved. However, unfortunately the notification system on UA is frequently broken meaning you might not ever see the comment.

I can't see any of your questions in the recently deleted queue, so I don't know the reasons why any of them might not have been approved.

When asking for technical help, always write clear, concise information about what you want to happen, what you've tried so far, and why it didn't work. If you get an error message, include it in full along with your source code. If something "didn't work", in what way didn't it work - did Unity crash, did nothing happen, or did something unexpected occur? And make sure you've searched both this site, and Google, first. Other than that, there's no reason why your questions shouldn't get published.

---- edit ----

Ah, hang on - I've just found your last question. It read:

"Hey there, I made a simple game, it has one annoying "Bug" though. At some point, the main character won't react anymore, as if it froze. Neither collision, nor key-input or anything similar will work - it just sits there, doing nothing. Why is this? Please tell me if you need any code."

Shortly after you submitted that, @robertbu commented:

"We need the code that drive the main character. Is the whole game frozen or just the character? Have you put Debug.Log() statements in to figure out what is or is not running on the character?"

That was 19hrs ago, and at some point after that with no further information your question was rejected (note that just because @robertbu added the comment does not mean he was the one who rejected it).

In addition to RobertBu's comments, if you ask this question again I'd add the following information:

  • Are you developing on a Mac/PC - what OS version?

  • What version of Unity are you using?

  • What is your target platform - web/standalone/mobile?

  • Does this "freeze" happen when playing in the editor or when deployed to the targeT device?

  • What are you doing when the "freeze" occurs? Is it after a certain amount of time, when you perform a certain action in the game, or something else?

  • Does everything else continue running through the freeze? (Music, other animations etc.)

  • What do you do to unfreeze it?

Hello tanoshimi.

Thank you for your reply, I, for some reason, did not notice the reply. Besides of that, I made a new post following your suggested criterias: http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/812011/unity-object-suddenly-freezes.html

I hope that this one will stay "online" :P

Sincerely, aleichert

Did you get a confirmation Email, when I first joined this forum I never noticed it straight away. It wasn't obvious that there was a confirmation email to validate with, so maybe it could be linked to this.

Hey $$anonymous$$pjComp,

thanks for your reply. Yes, I did get a confirmation Email which I then "confirmed". Thus, my answers are still being removed. I posted a new question at http://answers.unity3d.com/questions/812011/unity-object-suddenly-freezes.html , hopefully this one is "good enough" to remain "online" :P

Sincerely, aleichert
