Problem is outdated with an Update.
Android freeze on load (black screen with title)
Even with an empty project (just the default settings and objects), I'm getting a lock up when I launch the game on Android 2.3.7. This lock up continues until I am given the option for Force close (if I try to press some of the hardware buttons). The game runs with no problems at all on Android 4.3. I am using Unity 4.6.1f1.
I have tried turning on/off the 32/24 bit buffers. Any more ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

I would think the version is too old. You could check the manifest for target number.
What is OpenGl Support like on older Android APIs? Just curious.
Also, have you attempted to implement a Wake Lock?
Ok I have submitted a bug report. I will submit an answer here if/when I hear more about it.
@Rodakai, try installing Unity 4.5.5 to see if that fixes it. You can download old versions of Unity from here: http://unity3d.com/unity/download/archive
This topic really really helped me out. I am being stuck by this issue for almost one week. The unity 4.6.1f has this bug. After patch the UnitySetup_update-4.6.1p2, it works fine.
I had the same issue. Thanks to randydots installing the "Patch 4.6.1p2" from http://unity3d.com/unity/qa/patch-releases solved the issue.
