How can I downgrade monodevelop to 3.x and will it work ok?

I'm using the latest version of the unity editor 4.3.4f1 and the monodevelop that came with it 4.0.1
The latest monodevelop has problems. One problem, albeit not very serious but which annoying me constantly is the colour theme, which cannot be changed it seems. I use the "classic" windows theme that comes with windows 7, because of monodevelop 4s apparently hardcoded colours, scrollbars appear as a white bar on a white background and the currently selected autocomplete item is highlighted in white on a white background.
How can I go back to monodevelop 3.4 for example? monodevelop does not show up as a separate program in remove programs which leads me to believe it is part of the unity install. Also will unity 4.3.4f1 work the same with monodevelop 3.x for instance code completion, debugging etc. ?
