How do I use displacement mapping in Unity to create more high fidelity terrain?
I'm creating a mountain biking game, and the mountain meshes I intend on using aren't impressive in terms of triangle count. I've looked into methods for increasing this terrain detail such that I can have the bike operate on more frequent bumps, and displacement maps seems to be the way to go.
I haven't been able to find much learning material for implementing displacement maps in Unity. Can anyone provide a good place to start, or refer me to good resources to explore?

Unity Terrain can use displacement maps in the Raw format. You will have to get your displacement map and convert it into a Raw file, using a program such as Photoshop. Sometimes it can be tricky to import it, so try messing with the import settings if it does not work correctly.
To import a Raw click on the settings tab on the terrain in the inspector view. In the bottom there will be a button to import it.
Please see this thread for more help on making the Raw and setting up the terrain: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/21263-Import-Heightmap-HowTo-or-Tutorial
