Amount of game objects doesn't affect draw calls?

I have like 40 game objects with sprite renderers on my scene. The number of draw calls is somewhere around 32. However, when I copy those game objects only to make their sprite renderer's colors darker to create their shadows, the amount of my draw calls stays the same. I thought draw calls also depends on the number of the game objects? Does it not? If it doesn't, don't I still get a significant drop on performance by doing so?

If your objects have below 900 vertex attributes, and they share the same materials, and you don't modify the material at runtime, the draw calls are usually batched together.
