Unity3d not properly importing rigs?
In the following screenshot I have the elbow of a rigged human model in 3d studio max, as you can see it looks natural: http://i.imgur.com/CFozg.png

Why is this and how can I fix it?

I'm not sure what you mean about making sure verts are assigned...

When creating joints and bones make sure "scale compensate" is unchecked. Note: it may be called something else in blender/3ds max
