Increase Unity2D editor performance
I'm working on a 2D project and have some performance issues - mainly regarding sprites.
I have a MainPalette that exists of a sliced Main.png where nearly all sprites are stored. I use this palette for level design. It has 4096 tiles (many of them are placeholders).
If I want to add/edit a tile, I can just edit my Main.png and my Unity editor will automatically update the changes inside the palette.
Now my problem is that when updating the Main.png, unity takes very long to update the tiles (I can't use Unity in the meantime). Maybe 5-10 minutes (does not sound much, but it's annoying). I imagine this is because each of the 4096 tiles is updated individually.
My hardware is an AMD Ryzen 3700 8/16 core, GTX 1080, and 16GB of DDR4. Unity and my project are on an SSD.
Does someone know a way to improve performance of this import / update?
