the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)

Question

Upon installing the latest version of unity I get the following error: "the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)" for virtually every application installed on my computer. So far I have been unable to detect what the actual error does if anything.

however I did notice that when playing the game "Terminally Ill": http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=20818 online, using the Unity Web Player, it does not perform as it should: alt text

Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

If this is happening for virtually every program on your computer, your computer has issues, it's not unity specifically.

Try: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/33518-63-application-unable-start-correctly-0xc0000142-click-close

and check your files.
