Terrain becomes invisible while testing (problem)
I'm not sure if Unity Answers is the correct place to put this, but when I make my terrain, I use Terrain Toolkit. I have a bumpy mountainous terrain with a water plane passing through it, as a water level of sorts. Well, quite recently, something odd started occurring. I deleted the first terrain I had and made a new one. I could see my terrain in the editor window, but once I pressed the play button to test it, it all went invisible. The leaves of trees can still be seen, but their branches, as well as the ground are nowhere to be seen. The terrain is still solid, so I can walk on it, but all I see is the water plane several feet below.
Does anyone have a clue as to what happened? The problem persists on every new terrain I create now, so matter how large or small.
Sounds like the camera's near clip plane is too far away and clipping into the terrain.
On second read through your question, this wouldn't account for tree branches disappearing.
The near clip plane of the camera is set at 0.3. I think that's the default, right? But the thing with that is, the camera preview shows the terrain perfectly, it's only when I press play that everything vanishes.
I should also mention that I'm using the first person controller for testing purposes.
$$anonymous$$aybe you have a script which disables the mesh renderer of your terrain somewhere? Or something that changes the layer of the terrain to a layer the camera does not render? You can check this by checking if the terrain's properties change when you start the game.
I can't seem to pinpoint the problem. I don't notice the properties changing. What I did notice however, is that when I start the game, I can see the terrain for a split second before it disappears. It looks like it only vanishes after my main camera moves from its default position.
