Animated loop movie loop behind a GUI? ( on iPhone )

Im investigating doing an animated loop behind a GUI were building. I was imagining something like a DVD menu where you have some nice floating motion behind buttons on a menu.

I thought we could accomplish this thru the use of a movieclip just looped and playing in the GUI scene... but alas! Iphone does not handle movies this way... it fades into movie player.

Are there other ways of accomplishing this? Apply a moving texture switch to a plane behind the GUI?? This is for iPhone btw.. and we have pro.
