how does Unity update work?

What I want ot know is how they do the updates?

With 4.3 coming out soon, I wanted to check on this

is out, with 4.3 coming soon

Do I have to pay for the update for 4.3 (if I were to get 4.2 Pro before hand)

Or would that upgrade be free?

@VataRaven , if you get license it would be 4.x not 4.2 or 4.1 or 4.3, meaning the license you buy is valid till unity version changes from 4.x to 5.x.

So if you buy now, until unity 5.0 comes you dont have to pay. Check these faqs for bit more info.
