There's a search bar in the upper right corner of the unityAnswers screen, up above the "Ask A Question" tab, and I'm positive it would have yielded results for this subject. Google also has a search bar.
Anyway, to save you the hassle of typing "3d model" into the search bar and hitting the enter/return key, here's a link -> 3d model software stuff @ Unity Answers

The "google it" kind of mentality in forums is not a good attitude, especially since google now will give a hit on your reply. Just provide the link in the future, this is how the Internet and the search engines becomes useful for everyone.

I respectfully disagree. @Lo0Nuhti$$anonymous$$ didn't simply say "Google It" - they provided a descriptive response that taught the OP how to answer their own question. The internet would be more useful for everyone if people searched before creating noisy duplicate content (or, for that matter, reviving threads that are six years old...)

I use Wings3D extensively for spaceships, level design, attachments and props. Modelling is super easy in Wings, but there are some drawbacks.

  1. "Real" designers hate wings, and will push you toward Maya and Blender

  2. Wings cannot be used for rigged models, i.e. people (objects with "bones")

  3. UV Mapping in Wings can be tedious, especially at first. If you don't know, UV Mapping is where you apply textures to the surfaces of your objects.

Even with these drawbacks, I find Wings a million times easier to use than Blender, and I can't afford Maya as I am just a hobbyist.
