How do I make part of an object visible?

Hi, i'm working on a project where i need only part of an object visible when i shoot out a wave. I looked through a lot of forums but I still couldn't find any solution. I was thinking about using Depth Mask but I don't really understand Shaders so that's also an problem.alt text

Sorry about the Bad Paint work but this is what i'm looking for. The Round part is supposed to be visible when I trigger an event and the object around not visible.

I hope that there is someone who can help me. Thanks!

Just use the alpha value of a texture as the alpha of a transparent shader.
