why cant i use the code debug.log?,i cant write anything with debug code

when I write in mono developer debug.log ("Hello World") and save it nothing comes up when I press play. why does this happen? Can anyone help me? PLEASE!!,when I write debug.log ("welcome to the world") and save it nothing comes up when I press play in unity, why is that? Can someone help me? PLEASE...….

Are you sure your console window is visible?
Are you sure the Info toggle in the top right corner of the console window is toggled on?
Do you have any error in the console?
Are you sure the function calling Debug.Log is actually called?
Can you provide your script?
