How can I import GIS data into a Unity Project?

Unity is a popular choice for real time data visualization and architectual walk throughs. Has anyone imported GIS data into Unity before? And if so what did you use to convert GIS to FBX?

Hi there. The only solution so far I stumpled upon is to go through Terragen and export your model from there. But the results speak for themself, its worth a try.

From terragen you can export a mesh and import it to Unity where you would create a Terrain from the imported mesh. You can find a script for that purpose in the wiki here

Ah and there is 3dnemo's tutorial for exactly that here.

Would be cool to have a GIS to Terrain Wizard, though. ;)

You can convert .DEM files from USGS into RAW files and import them into Unity as a heightmap. I have been using this method to create terrain of Northern Arizona for a driving game based on Route 66.

Hi there, I have not been able to export any models with using Terragen 2 :/ Is it because I am using the free version of Terragen? If anyone has an idea please let me know. Cheers
