Get lightmap information before baking

In Unity 2018 LTS, is it possible for Unity to tell you the number of lightmaps that will be generated BEFORE it actually generates them? I'm building an automated lightmap optimizer, and this would be immensely helpful. I haven't been able to find the information I need in the documentation. Baking, reading the information, then re-baking is not an option due to the large volume of scenes.
