Game icon not visable

I made a standalone win32 build with a costom icon. The icon is only visable as a small thumbnail when I am in windows explorer but once I place a shortcut to the game on the desktop it uses the default unity game icon. I am using the 'default icon' option in the player settings menu with a costom 128x128 png image. The icon shows up in the icon tab and 'Override for standalone' is not activated. What am I doing wrong?
