Can't add animated properties to a 3D character in 2018

I try to enable a game object inside a 3D character through an animation but it seems the Animation window is not remebering the properties.

I remember doing this in 2017, but it seems 2018 won't let me key anything inside a 3D character. I have already duplicated the animation to removed the read only and all of that stuff...

Please help.
