When I export from 3ds max, unity wont import texters, why?
My 3ds max scene has way too many textures to re import into unity manually, why wont unity read the textures from the models I export fbx?

Because textures are assets that need to appear in the Unity assets folder hierarchy. This page:
http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Components/class-Mesh.html
describes how to set up your textures so the FBX importer finds them.
