Creating enemy animation in unity 3d

Hi,

I'm making an iOS racing game for the iPhone, I would like to have 16 enemy cars going round the track. My target phone (the iPhone 3GS) just isn't powerful enough to handle that many ai cars.

What I want to do is put some of the cars 'on rails' so they are just animations of cars driving around the track.

The way I want to do this is by using something like the ai driver toolkit to record their telemetry to an animation.

  1. I crate the ai cars using the ai driver toolkit in the editor

  2. I add a script to each of the ai cars to record their position while they are going round the track

  3. I export the recorded information to an animation

  4. I remove the ai driver toolkit from the cars

  5. Add the exported animation to the cars

  6. Watch the cars go round the track on the iPhone.

Is there any way of doing this?

I know the dis advantages of using 'on rails' cars but it seems the ideal solution for me as this is going to be a VERY 'arcadey' game.

Thanks in advance!

Well, just do exactly what you say in 1 - 6.

i wouldn't worry about an "animation." just record the positions in an array (it might be a few hundred, maybe a couple thousand, items long)
