Object properties are different when I press play
I have this problem where I set the object properties (like scale to 1.0 in design mode) and when I press play the values revert to the model import values.

Your model must be having a locked scale when you exported it from your modeling program. This happens often with me. Either that or the variables that you are setting get changed in the update command in your scripts. Also, take into account that static variables are variables that you cannot change manually in the properties.
