Remember that the X and Y components of the force are independent of one another.
If you go the add force method consider gravity and friction. Gravity will oppose the Y component eventually causing the player to have no vertical velocity at the top of the arc, and then bring it back down to the platform.
The X component will have no opposition until the player lands, and even then only if there is friction between the player and the platform. So without friction you have to remove the force once the player lands.
Easiest method is probably to just play with X component until you like how long it takes the player to travel 'd'. Then pick a Y component such that you like the height of the arc.
If you aren't talking about a fixed jump behavior then you need to do some research into basic kinematics
