Game Screen Resolution changes after a while

My game is crashing after 5 to 10 hours and after restart has a different screen resolution. I'm working with a 4k display and it doesn't matter if I turn off the computer or restart the game multiple times it keeps a 4:3 low res picture. Is there a file I can delete or edit, that the game recognizes the native screen resolution again?
