Warnings in Java
So i'm kinda new to the entire scripting world and i'm trying to read up on it and follow tutorials, i have tried to make a few easy scripts myself just to test it out, but no matter what i write i always get a bunch of error's and warnings when writing. Even when i'm creating a brand new project and follow a tutorial to the letter i get several errors, but it works in the tutorial without a problem.
Here is a short code for spawning a cube that i wrote from scratch in a new project by following a tutorial i watched on youtube:
#pragma strict
var Cube : GameObject;
var spawn_position;
var timer = 0.0;
function spawn_cube ()
{
spawn_position = Vector(0.0.0);
vartemp_spawn_cube = Instantiate(cube, spawn_position, Quaternion.identity);
}
function Start () {
}
function Update () {
timer += Time.deltaTime;
if(timer > 10)
{spawn_cube();
timer = 0.0;
}
}
Writing this i get 4 warnings inside the editor: Warning 1: Invalid character in line 1 (i can fix this by removing the # in front of pragma) Warning 2: Expected ';' in line 1 (i can also fix this by placing a ; between pragma and strict) Warning 3: Expected ';' in line 3 (if i switch : with ; this warning goes away) Warning 4: Expected ')' in line 9 (if i remove the last .0 i fix this problem)
But fixing these problems like the editor asks me doesnt seem like the right thing to do based on the little experience i got with scripting. And it gives me entirely new errors like inconsistent line endings and new "insert semicolons at the end"
Dealing with these issues every single time i try to create a script makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my unity installation.
the tutorial i am trying to copy from is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiBBInQfAy8
