Question by BumfluffPenguins · Aug 18, 2013 at 11:45 AM · first person controllermouse look

How do i make camera movement smoother?

Hi, so lately I've been planning to make a RPG style open world game, i would like to make the game first person (maybe with an option to change to third) I planned on using unity's character controller with some adjustments, however when i hit play and started to move around i noticed that when i moved the mouse to look around it was rather jerky, i was hoping to find out how to make my player look around like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1whiDb5FDEo (skip to 1:15).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and i am a beginner so let me know if im missing something really obvious. Thanks.

There is a FPS component/script built in, you just add it and it works, gives you fPS movement with the W S A D keys. But like you said in default that movement is not smooth.

ALso you can add the built in mouseMOve component and that too is really fast.

What you do is just open up those scripts and change their values. Most likely you'll decrease the amount or make it a float value and decrease it.

I did it with mine and now it's better

thanks for the suggestion, however when i do this all that happens is the sensitivity goes down making me look around slower. This is not quite what i was hoping for because when i look around i am still very jittery unlike in the video where it is very smooth.

Well, you'll need to do some program$$anonymous$$g and if you know a lot of math maybe there's algorithms to make it better. I'm not a math pro so i just do simple games and so far for me the way it looks/moves is fine.
