What does the NodeInfo inside a metadata file do ?
hi i am working on a fairly big project we have 7000 files inside the projects svn repository often when i(or one of my co workers) start the unity editor after having updated svn this little piece of information is added to our metadata files:
nodeInfo: house_01: - 100000 - 400000 - 3300000 - 2300000 street_01: - 100002 - 400002
what exactly does this "nodeinfo" do ?
the meta data is being altered without us actualy changing anything on our assets and than immidialty gets the corresponding asset reimported which takes a long time becasue it usualy changes 50 -100 metadata files at once (at random). next time that person wants to check in his work 50 to 100 modified metadata files get listed ... right than and there we can either chose to a) revert the metadata which leads to a new involentary alterartion and reimport on next editor launch or b) the changes get propageted to all other users who than have to reimport those 50-100 filesand add their own altered metadata to the mix ... and this continues on and on without any end in sight.
can we prevent unity from altering metadata of unchanged assets ?!
I'm not sure if they are used elsewhere, but nodeInfo entries are certainly created for fbx files imported into the Unity asset folder.
We've had problems where the order of the nodeInfo entries is not consistent -- if an FBX file is reimported on a different computer Unity may crash if the nodeInfo entries in the .meta file are in the wrong order. Delete the .meta file and reimport and everything's fine. The new .meta file is identical to the old except for the reordering of the nodeInfo's.
