My Story and Advice

Hello. I am 13. About 3-4 months ago I somehow got sucked into the love of game development. On my first month, I knew I couldn't just jump to the good stuff. I first learned HTML after seeing that to start programming I should pick any language. I learned the basic syntax such as ending all statements with (;). I kept searching for more free coding courses until I found out I was only getting website programming. I learned some JavaScript since I knew a version of it was used in Unity. I almost gave up on learning and just jumped into Unity. At first I was only copying scripts while watching the videos. Let me tell you, it worked. I picked C# pretty quickly because it and UnityScript are very alike. I never thought I would write my own code. Now, I'm pretty good with C# and definitely can create my own scripts. I'm currently creating a basic Soccer MMO (with the help of more experienced people of course). Ever since those 3-4 months I knew for my career I wanted to be a game programmer regardless of the payment. I just know it will be something I love. I know that I need a Bachelor's in Computer Science for a programming job, so starting High-School, I will take computer science classes.

What advice do you have for me? Do you think I can make it into the industry as someone experienced, not just someone who struggles? Did I start too young?

I would really appreciate your answers. By the way, thanks for reading the whole thing!

www.gamasutra.com commonly commonly runs articles about "how to get started in game dev," students doing postmortems of projects, how much work it is to make any money as an indy, etc... . Years and years of them.
