Ask an expert - please don't
So there's this great new feature called "ask an expert", where users can click a button, and then have that user receive a notification, by email, about the question.
How about no? Look, I hang out here to answer questions. I really don't mind spending my time doing it, and I don't believe anybody owes me anything for this. That being said, letting people pester me with email-notifications is not okay. Especially when it seems like everybody can do it. I've gotten a few of these e-mails now:
"Hi Baste,
some_user has requested your help in answering the question "Some Question"
pls help... (link to question)"
I'm completely fine with moderators having the ability to ask other moderators to answer questions. Letting any new user send emails to any other user about any question kinda defeats the point of the help room, though. At least let us opt out of getting those mails in the user settings.
I was going to complain about this exact thing, there's not even an opt out on this?! I've just sent every email containing 'wants you to answer' in the subject straight to junk.
We're implementing the "opt-out" function for this, but I'm wondering if we should remove this "Ask an expert" function entirely.
I changed it now so only moderators can use the "Ask an Expert" function, if we still find this useful we can keep it.
This seems to be used as "Ask a person with lots of points."
I've gotten the email twice, on topics that I have never written a word about (Android bugs.)
@Owen Reynolds currently only moderators are able to use this function, are you receiving these e-mails from non-mods still? If so there is something wrong with the permission settings, and I'll get on that asap.
SC: Oh, no. The last time AskAnExpert sent me anything was Aug 26th.
Just adding one more problem it seems to have, that not only are you pestered, but pestered about Qs you couldn't help with even if you wanted to.

Hey all, I just posted in the Moderators space about potentially removing this feature, as I need to know if it has a purpose or not. Would love your opinions now that it's been in place for a bit:
