Pöide church

a journey to the past
The Foundation of Pöide St. Mary’s Church was founded by Pöide St. Mary’s congregation and the Pöide Rural Municipality on March 13, 2012. The aim of the foundation according to the articles of association is to save St. Mary’s Church of Pöide - a unique architectural and historical monument from destruction, to carry out restoration for preserving the clerical functions and promote the church as a unique and peculiar concert hall and as an attraction to all tourist in Saaremaa.
 
The first 8-member council of the foundation included on behalf of the congregation as follows: Veiko Vihur – rural dean of islands, and members: art historian Anne Untera, Heidi Madisson and Meelis Pärn; and on behalf of Pöide Rural Municipality: Angela Nairis -the member of the management of the Foundation Saaremaa Tourism, the chairman of the  Estonian Heritage Conservation Union - Jaan Tamm, Pöide municipality secretary  Maire Käärid and Vilmar Laak - the road engineer of AS Eesti Teed. The foundation began with Gerri Grünberg´s intent.
