Plants on terrain light strangely with spotlight

I'm using Unity 5.6.1. I have a VR scene where the player uses a flashlight with a spotlight attached to see around them. The spotlight works well on every asset except for the plants attached to my terrain object.

When the spotlight touches the terrain plants, the plants light up kind of like they're being highlighted. They do not have a realistic lighting effect and I'm not sure how to fix it.
